Master of Divinity
The seminary program consists of four years, comprising eight academic semesters, which provide the basic professional degree program leading to the degree of Master of Divinity. The residence requirement for the degree is at least two academic years. Any subsequent internship requirements remain the responsibility of each student's sponsor and are not reckoned among the requirements for the Master of Divinity degree.
During these eight semesters students must succesfully complete thirty-eight academic courses: twenty-eight required courses and ten elective courses. These courses give 114 credits.
Of these ten electives, seven will be at the choice of the student whil three are specified for three general areas, that is, one elective in Systematic Theology, another in Moral Theology and another in Biblical Studies.
In III Theology each student will select an area of concentration from among the catalog possibilities: Biblical Studies, Historical Studies, Theology, Church and World. This choice will show itself in the selection of what he takes, will be supervised by his faculty adviser and must be clearly manigested upon each student's transcript. Each student will present four electives in the area of concentration selected. Should his chosen area of concentration include a discipline for which an elective is specifically required, he may count such an elective(s) towards the rquirements of this area of concentration (four electives).
For two semesters' study of a modern language for pastoral purposes, three elective credits will be given.
Students are also required to obtain the Theological Field Education credits associated with four field educaiton programs or placemtns: a catechetical placement with an introduction to pastoral ministry, a clinically supervised institutional placement and parish placements. These programs or placements are supervised and approved by the seminary.
With the approval of the Subcommittee for Supervised Ministries, some Theological Field Education components may be fulfilled during the summer or be anticipated out of their usual sequence.
