This course will utilize the book Women, Sex, and the Church to explore a variety of contro-versial issues from the perspective of women. The book argues that Church teaching on these issues is actually the most affirming of the dignity of women. We will explore these issues with the purposes of the New Evangelization in mind. In addition to learning why Church teaching supports genuine human happiness, we will study Church documents, beginning with the Catechism of the Catholic Church and continuing with letters and encyclicals issued by Popes Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI. This course will teach you to make convincing arguments regarding these issues as well as to help you to understand better the Church’s teaching on morality and social issues.
