Saint John’s Seminary welcomed golfers, sponsors, clergy, seminarians, alumni, and friends to Woodland Golf Club on June 1 for the 24th Annual SJS Summer Classic Golf Tournament, a day of fellowship and fundraising in support of the Seminary’s mission of priestly formation.
For more than two decades, the Summer Classic has brought together supporters of Saint John’s Seminary to invest in the formation of future priests who will serve dioceses throughout New England and beyond. This year’s event continued that tradition while also marking a significant milestone in the life of the Seminary community.

The 2026 Summer Classic was the final golf tournament held during the tenure of Msgr. Stephen E. Salocks as Rector of Saint John’s Seminary. Following a successful day on the course, participants gathered for a special dinner celebrating Msgr. Salocks’ retirement and honoring his nearly four decades of service to the Seminary.

The evening featured remarks from Archbishop Richard G. Henning, Archbishop of Boston; Bishop Peter J. Uglietto, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston; Bishop Robert P. Reed, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston and newly appointed Rector of Saint John’s Seminary; and Msgr. Salocks himself.
Ordained to the priesthood in 1980, Msgr. Salocks began his ministry in parish service before joining the Saint John’s Seminary faculty in 1987. Over the years, he served as Professor of Sacred Scripture, Dean of Students, Academic Dean, Interim Rector, and ultimately Rector beginning in 2018.

His tenure has been marked by faithful leadership, academic excellence, and an unwavering commitment to the formation of priests in service to the Church. Through his teaching, mentorship, pastoral care, and leadership, Msgr. Salocks has helped shape generations of seminarians and strengthened the Seminary’s mission of preparing men for priestly ministry.
Throughout the evening, speakers reflected on the profound impact of his ministry and expressed gratitude for his dedication to Saint John’s Seminary and the many dioceses it serves. The celebration offered an opportunity not only to honor Msgr. Salocks’ remarkable legacy but also to reaffirm the Seminary’s enduring mission as it looks toward the future.
Saint John’s Seminary extends its sincere gratitude to all who participated in this year’s Summer Classic and to the many sponsors, benefactors, and volunteers whose generosity made the event possible.
