New Podcast Episodes Explore Priestly Fraternity

August 19, 2026

Saint John’s Seminary is pleased to share three new episodes of the Saint John’s Seminary Podcast featuring reflections on the importance of priestly fraternity.

The episodes feature presentations from the seminary’s summer conference for priests, “One Priesthood, Many Ages: Renewing Fraternity in the New England Presbyterate,” held on Wednesday, June 17. The conference brought priests together to reflect on how fraternity strengthens priestly life, parish ministry, and the mission of the Church.

One Priesthood in Christ: Building Priestly Fraternity

Fr. Najim offers a reflection on the foundations of priestly identity and fraternity through a simple framework: Relationship, Identity, and Mission (RIM).

He emphasizes that a priest's relationship with Jesus Christ must come first. From that relationship flows a deeper understanding of priestly identity, and from that identity flows the priest's mission. When mission comes first, he cautions, priestly life can become a “recipe for burnout.” When priests remain rooted in Christ, however, differences in age, experience, and pastoral assignment can become complementary gifts rather than sources of division.

Fraternity Is Mission-Critical

Fr. James J. Ronan, Pastor Emeritus of St. Mary’s and St. Catherine of Siena Parishes in Boston, explores why fraternity is essential not only to the happiness of priests but also to the health and vitality of the Church. Fr. Ronan discusses the practical habits that help sustain strong relationships among priests, including humor, honesty, and transparency. He reflects on how these qualities can help priests navigate disagreements and difficult conversations while strengthening their bonds with one another. At the heart of authentic fraternity, he reminds listeners, is a personal relationship with the living Jesus Christ.

Grace Builds on Nature: The Foundation of Priestly Fraternity

In his presentation, Most Reverend Robert Reed, Rector of Saint John’s Seminary, reflects on how priests can remain united in mission while honoring the different personalities, experiences, and gifts each priest brings to the presbyterate.

Drawing on the principle that “grace builds on nature,” Bishop Reed emphasizes that priestly fraternity does not require sameness. Rather, priests are called to offer their unique gifts to one another and allow the grace of priesthood to elevate and perfect those gifts. He also highlights the importance of clear communication, healthy structure, charity amid differences, and ongoing renewal in the grace of priesthood.

Together, these three presentations offer a rich reflection on what it means to live a healthy and fruitful priesthood in communion with Christ and with one another.

The episodes are now available on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts.
