Saint John’s Seminary warmly congratulates Bishop Salvatore R. Matano on his retirement and expresses heartfelt gratitude for his decades of faithful service to the Church and to priestly formation.
A priest of the Diocese of Providence, Bishop Matano has long been a devoted supporter of seminary life and the cultivation of vocations. As a valued member of the Saint John’s Seminary Board of Governors, he has shared his pastoral wisdom, guidance, and encouragement, helping the Seminary carry out its mission of forming men for faithful and generous service to God and His people.
Throughout his ministry, Bishop Matano has been a steadfast advocate for seminarians, promoting a culture of discernment, prayer, and pastoral care. His guidance and example have left a lasting impact on the lives of many who have entered the priesthood.
As he begins this new chapter, the Saint John’s Seminary community gives thanks for Bishop Matano’s faithful leadership and continues to hold him in prayer.
We also extend our congratulations and prayers to Bishop Bonnici, who will succeed Bishop Matano as the Tenth Bishop of the Diocese of Rochester, and we ask God’s blessing upon him as he takes up this important pastoral ministry.
