Saint John’s Seminary to Host Annual Invitational Basketball Tournament on January 3, 2026

Brighton, MA — 11.12.2025 — Saint John’s Seminary is excited to announce the Saint John’s Seminary Invitational Basketball Tournament, taking place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Saint John’s Seminary (127 Lake Street, Brighton, MA) and Boston College’s Margot Connell Recreation Center (Edmonds Hall, 200 St. Thomas More Rd, Boston, MA).

Rooted in the spirit of Christian fatherhood and fraternity, the Invitational brings together parishes, seminarians, and Catholic communities from across the region for a full day of worship, prayer, and spirited competition. The tournament reflects Saint John’s Seminary’s commitment to forming men who embody the love of God the Father while fostering fellowship and teamwork among participants.

The day begins with team check-in at 8:00 a.m., followed by Holy Mass at 8:30 a.m. and an Opening Ceremony and Blessing at 9:45 a.m. Tournament games start at 10:00 a.m., with lunch provided for participating teams. The semifinals will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by a 3-point contest at 3:00 p.m., the third-place game at 3:45 p.m., and the championship game at 4:15 p.m. The day concludes with a trophy presentation and final blessing at 5:00 p.m.

Participants will include a range of regional Catholic parishes. Last year’s teams, including Gate of Heaven (South Boston), Catholic Weymouth (Weymouth, MA), Immaculate Heart of Mary (Still River, MA), Resurrection / Saint Paul (Hingham, MA), Saint Brendan’s (East Providence, RI), Saint Brigid (South Boston), Saint Francis / Saint Clare (Braintree, MA), Saint John’s Seminary (Brighton, MA), Saint Mary’s of the Assumption (Dedham, MA), Saint Mary of the Nativity (Scituate, MA), Saint Thomas the Apostle (Millis, MA), and Trivium (Lancaster, MA).

The tournament is open to families, fans, and parishioners, who are encouraged to come cheer on their favorite teams — with a prize awarded for the best fans. A special 3-point contest will feature one player from each team competing for individual glory.

This event embodies the Seminary’s mission of building bonds through faith, fellowship, and healthy competition, creating a space where seminarians, laymen, and parishioners alike can grow in community and joyfully witness the Gospel.
