On Friday, January 16, seminarians from Saint John’s Seminary traveled to Providence for the 2nd Annual Seminarian Basketball Game against Our Lady of Providence Seminary, an evening that combined prayer, fraternity, and friendly competition in support of the Vocations Office of the Diocese of Providence.
The night began with a Holy Hour for Vocations at Saint Augustine’s Parish, grounding the event in prayer and reflection. Following the Holy Hour, the community gathered for the game, which opened with prayer led by Bishop Bruce Lewandowski.

Seminarians, faculty, clergy, parishioners, and supporters from across the diocese filled the gym for an energetic matchup that showcased not only athletic effort, but also the strong bonds of brotherhood shared between the two seminaries. Saint John’s Seminary came away with a 41–33 victory, but the true highlight of the evening was the spirit of unity and shared purpose evident throughout the event.

Beyond the final score, the game served as a joyful witness to the mission of seminary formation: preparing men through prayer, community, and service to become faithful shepherds of the Church. Saint John’s Seminary is grateful for the hospitality of the Diocese of Providence and for the opportunity to support and celebrate vocations together.
